Richard F. Tranquada
B. A. Sc., M.B.A., P. Eng., Designated Consulting Engineer, Principal
Mr. Richard F. Tranquada, B. A. Sc., M.B.A., P. Eng., Designated Consulting Engineer, is a Principal of The Sernas Group Inc., and since 2003, has managed Sernas Associates (York) as a Regional Manager. He also serves as the Risk Manager and Director for The Sernas Group Inc. He has been a valued member of the Sernas team since 1989 and has over 36 years of experience in the industry. Prior to becoming Regional Manager, he was stationed in our Whitby office where he served as Project Director. In his Sernas tenure he has provided outstanding leadership in the provision of land development engineering services in its many facets including residential, commercial, and condominium development.
Mr. Tranquada’s current responsibilities include the overall management and leadership of the Sernas Associates’ team serving York and Simcoe Regions with exposure to some select Durham Region projects. Also, he oversees the engineering services provided on a significant portfolio of big box retail work. The scope of work, in these various roles, spans the preparation of servicing feasibility studies, proformas and preliminary cost estimates, preliminary engineering designs, functional servicing and stormwater management reports, detailed engineering designs, tendering, contract administration, and field services, with a focused drive on securing approvals.
Mr. Tranquada provides an extended experience base. Prior to his work with The Sernas Group, he provided 5 years service to the former City Of Scarborough and 9 years in various roles in consulting, providing municipal and transportation services. He has consulted for both the private and public side. His contacts are extensive. His reputation is superlative. His MBA provides a business perspective that adds uncounted value. There are few personalities in the consulting engineering field in the GTA that can offer what Mr. Tranquada brings to the table.
Mirko A. Favit
B.A. Sc. (Eng), P.Eng., Principal
Mr. Mirko Favit has been the Regional Manager of the Whitby office for the Sernas Associates business unit since the autumn of 2008. Prior to attaining his position of Regional Manager he rose through the ranks of Field Inspector, Municipal Designer, Project Engineer, Project Manager and Project Director within Sernas Associates. During his nearly 20-year career, Mr. Favit has obtained considerable experience in overseeing the planning, design, approval, construction and final acceptance both on personally managed projects and on projects handled by other professional staff.
Mr. Favit’s current responsibilities include overall leadership of the Sernas Associates Whitby office and supervising the work of a number of department managers, project managers and skilled practice area staff. He is also responsible for overseeing and managing large residential and commercial developments in the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area and in Western Canada. He is proficient in the design of low and high density residential developments, commercial big-box developments, sewage pumping station design, cost sharing management and water resources including low impact development (L.I.D.) implementation.
Today, Mr. Favit leads a group of highly qualified, experienced individuals who are exceptionally skilled at what they do in their respective areas of practice. Edward W. Duck
B.A., C.E.T., Aff. M. ASCE, Principal
Mr. Edward Duck has been a Regional Manager within the Sernas Associates Business Unit since 2008. Prior to becoming General Manager of the Toronto Office, he has served in many capacities within the organization, including Field Services Inspector, Project Assistant, Municipal Engineering Designer, Project Leader and Project Manager. During his nearly 15-year career, Mr. Duck has obtained considerable experience in all aspects of ‘Land Development Engineering’ and has been involved in projects of varying size and complexity.
Mr. Duck’s current responsibilities include the overall management and leadership of the Toronto based land development group within the Sernas Associates Business Unit, as well as overseeing and managing numerous land development projects within the City of Toronto. He leads a team of qualified and dedicated staff in the preparation of servicing feasibility studies, proformas and preliminary cost estimates, preliminary engineering designs, Functional Servicing and Stormwater Management Reports, Detailed Engineering Designs, Tendering, Contract Administration, and Field Services.
Mr. Duck prides himself on the relationships he and his team have built over the years within the industry and approval authorities. It is through these strong relationships that his group is able to stay on the leading edge of the ever changing approvals process within the City of Toronto. Mr. Duck’s team is considered to be the top land development engineering group in their field of practice within the City of Toronto.
