Sernas Associates - History

Land development Planning and Engineering has always been a core component for the sustainability of growing communities. Over many decades, we have seen development expansions rise to astronomical levels within Ontario and abroad, that has brought more need for qualified engineers and planners within this specialty. Clients look to work with firms that have a solid handle on the ever changing industry; who can fully understand the complexities of their requirements; and can provide innovative solutions to move their projects forward to successful completion. In 1962, GM Sernas and Associates was established as a Canadian employee-owned firm, which included an expert team of qualified engineers who consulted various clients within the field of Land Development.

In 2001 the firm went on to change its operating name to The Sernas Group Inc., to incorporate the many professional services we provide. As a result, a specialty Business Unit was organized named Sernas Associates. With a team of highly skilled and knowledgeable staff, this small group went on to provide their expertise in an array of areas, and for close to 50 years, has successfully completed thousands of projects that continue to sustain their integrity, serviceability and deliverables.

Sernas Associates has continued to expand its services to meet the high demands of the Land Development and Engineering sector within Southern Ontario. The team has grown to over 80 staff, made up of highly qualified individuals who are exceptionally skilled in their respective Areas of Practice. To better suit the needs of its clients, The Sernas Associates Business Unit has devised five specific Areas of Practice which encompass: Land Development Engineering; Land Use Planning; Residential Subdivision Development; Site Plan Development; and Water Resources. Among these areas of practice, each has a detailed roster of specific services which focuses primarily on providing innovative solutions for our Clients’ unique needs to ensure the Client’s Ultimate Satisfaction.

For the convenience of our Clients, Sernas Associates operates out of four offices within Southern Ontario. Our main office located in Whitby, accommodates the majority of the Sernas Associates Team while having the remaining members dispersed throughout our three other offices in Mississauga, Richmond Hill and Kitchener. By having many operating offices, and a multi-disciplined team of specialists, we have the advantage of resources available for assignments within the different markets we serve.
