Reporting to the Sr. Project Engineer, this engineer will design all aspects of new construction and rehabilitation of transportation structures including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.  Additional responsibilities will include other project functions such as drawing layout, contract drawing review, quantity calculations, preparation of letters, reports, proposals, and tender documents, conducting site inspections of existing structures as well as those under construction, corresponding with sub-consultants and other agencies, etc.

Reporting to a Project Manager, the successful incumbent participates in the collection of traffic count data and preparation of inventories of road facilities and transit services; undertakes research and analysis of land use, demographic and travel data; determines access requirements and broader transportation impacts of development proposals; assists in the preparation and analysis of travel forecasts; develops and assesses alternative road improvements; develops preliminary road designs; prepares technical memos, reports and graphics; assists with detailed road and signal design.

A good understanding of travel data collection and analysis techniques, travel forecasting methods, general knowledge of roadway geometrics, strong computer, analytical and problem solving skills. Experience with AutoCAD, Synchro/Simtraffic, HCS, CCG/Calc is preferred. Self-motivation and the ability to handle multiple projects, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. Reporting to the Water Resources Manager, assist in technical supervision of intermediate and junior staff with particular focus on review of computer models for hydrologic/hydraulic calculations. Analyses and interprets results and provides technical direction; writes and review reports for stormwater management systems, hydraulics at bridge and culvert openings and stormwater management studies. An important component of this role will be business development involving external contact with Clients and Agencies including involvement with every facet of the proposal preparation process.

The successful incumbent requires a civil or water resources engineering degree and a Master’s Degree is beneficial, minimum 10 years working experience; experience in stormwater management, working knowledge of SWMHYMO or Visual HYMO and HEC-RAS computer models, water balance and continuous modeling, working knowledge of MS Word and Excel and strong report writing skills. Knowledge of AutoCAD and OTTSWMM are assets.
