Safety Analysis
Safety analysis provides a quantitative assessment of the safety performance of a roadway or intersection based on local operational characteristics. They typically include a review of collision history / trends, the predictive causes of crashes, and investigations into potential mitigation, but they also include intersection turning delays relative to traffic stream gaps and sightline conditions, as well as truck or heavy vehicle maneuvers (if applicable) relative to other traffic and pedestrian activity. In doing so, the mitigation selection also considers the need for improvements in operational control, the possible restriction of movements, the need for traffic calming, the value of changes in signage pavement marking and roadway geometry, or the need for any other modifications that would enhance the safety performance.
