The peer review process is often employed in the field of transportation engineering where the implications of a proposed development are significant and the necessity of an unbiased assessment is viewed as desirable, typically by a public sector approvals agency, and/or if a supplemental opinion might be useful in the site planning, decision making, and/or formal approvals process. The peer review involves objective assessment of the chosen methodology, rigorous data analysis validation, and interpretation of results.
