Haul Route Assessments
Aggregate extraction activities, concrete/asphalt plants, landfill sites, and other high-truck generating land uses, require robust quantitative comparison of traffic impacts to aid operators and municipalities in the selection of appropriate ‘haul routes’. These studies can include critical operational and geometric review of local, regional, and provincial highway systems, review of jurisdictional-official and transportation-master plans, selection of preferred routes to market destinations, operational review of roadways and intersections, collision / safety reviews, and detailed design of roadway improvements. Over the years Transtech has developed significant expertise in the area of aggregate extraction haul route selection and impact analyses, representing many of the aggregate industry’s largest operators. Often, pits and quarries applications end up at the Ontario Municipal Board, and our staff has provided expert opinion and testimony to the Board on many extraction license applications throughout South-Central Ontario.
